Alas Pa’ Volar (Wings to Fly), a new cannabis brand, is launching in early 2025, inspired by Frida Kahlo and her use of cannabis for pain relief. The brand, founded by Marisela Nuño of Hierba Buena, has the blessing of Kahlo’s great-grandnieces. The name is taken from one of Kahlo’s last paintings and reflects her resilience. The brand’s visual identity, designed by Francisco Herrera, incorporates elements of Kahlo’s artistic style, including a winged spider monkey. Nuño plans to partner with Latino-owned farms in California and share revenues with Kahlo’s descendants.
